- Qualifications:
- Navik (General Duty): Class 12 mathematics and physics pass from an education board approved by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
- Yantrik: A diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering, approved by the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
Or
- A class 10 pass from an education board recognized by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE) are required.
- Either the Class 10 and Class 12 pass from an education board accredited by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE) OR the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has approved a 2- or 3-year-long Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering.
Age Limit:
Minimum age requirement is eighteen (18), and maximum age is twenty-two (22). To be eligible for the positions of Navik (GD) and Yantrik, candidates must have been born between March 1, 2003, and February 28, 2007 (inclusive).
Additional Information About ICG Hiring
Selection Process: Candidates are chosen according to a merit list {region wise for Nvk (GD) and all India for Yantrik}, which is based on the number of openings for the position, the candidates’ performance in Stages I, II, III, and IV (described in detail at para. 6), and whether or not they meet the established medical standards during the medical examination. Obtaining a job in the ICG requires passing Stages I, II, III, and IV as well as demonstrating proficiency in training. Before the CGEPT Stages I, II, and III examinations begin, all applicants will be required to submit to an identification check.
- Stage I: Computer-based examination.
- Stage II: Candidates will be shortlisted for Stage II and a provisional E admission card will be provided based on their performance in the computer-based examination and the ICG Recruitment Centers’ processing capabilities.
- Stage III: Candidates will be provisionally shortlisted for training at INS Chilka and will be given a provisional E admission card provided they pass Stage I and Stage II and demonstrate merit in relation to the available slots.
- Stage IV: Candidates training at INS Chilka are required to turn in all original documentation from Stage III. The Indian Coast Guard will verify all original documentation by checking with boards, universities, and state governments.

Exam fee: Candidates must pay an examination cost of Rs. 300 (Rupees Three Hundred Only) online using net banking, Visa, Master, Maestro, RuPay Credit/Debit Card, or UPI, with the exception of SC/ST candidates, who are free from paying the charge. Only applicants who have successfully paid the examination fee and who are eligible for a fee waiver will get an e-admit card for the test.
Standards for Medicine:
- Upon enrollment, enrolled personnel shall undergo a medical examination by authorized Medical Officers of the Defense Forces in accordance with the medical standards outlined in the most recent rules.
- Height: Height requirement: 157 cm. Applicants who are residents of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Garhwal, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands may be exempt from the height requirements by up to five centimeters below 157 cm. Candidates who reside in Lakshadweep may be exempt from the height requirements by up to 02 centimeters.
- Chest: It ought to be proportionate. 5 cm is the minimum expansion.
- Weight: Acceptable ranges are proportionate to age and height plus 10%.
- Normal hearing.
