The large recruitment drive is aimed at filling long-pending vacancies across police stations, outposts, and battalions in the state. Interviews are currently being held in Shillong and Tura for candidates from the Eastern and Western Ranges.

Commissioner and Secretary of the Home (Police) Department, Cyril V. Darlong Diengdoh, said the recruitment process is in its final stage. He confirmed that recruitment for 76 Sub-Inspector posts has already been completed. The selected candidates have joined service and are undergoing training at the North Eastern Police Academy.
Recruitment for remaining posts, including armed and unarmed constables, is still ongoing. Officials expect the entire process to be completed by the first or second week of February 2026.
Diengdoh said the addition of 3,000 personnel will help the police department meet manpower needs across the state. The new recruits will be deployed based on district and unit requirements, as decided by the office of the Director General of Police.
He also added that special units such as the Anti-Narcotics Task Force are being strengthened and will receive additional manpower.
The recruitment drive is expected to improve law and order management, investigation work, and overall police presence across Meghalaya.
