RRC Northern Railway Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026 offers 4,651 apprenticeship slots in 42 trades, such as Fitter, Electrician and Welder, to candidates who have passed Class 10 and an ITI in the trade. It’s training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, not a regular railway job, so read the conditions before you apply.
The online form opens on 11 November 2026 and closes on 11 December 2026, 11:59 PM. You take no written test and no interview. The RRC selects candidates by merit, using their Class 10 and ITI marks. One point matters for readers in Meghalaya: all six clusters sit in North India, and the notice gives no hostel, travel allowance or accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
You need two things: a pass in SSC, Matriculation or Class 10 (or the equivalent under the 10+2 system) with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised board, and an ITI pass in the relevant trade from NCVT or SCVT.
The RRC counts your qualification as on 6 November 2026. If you were still waiting for your Class 10 or ITI result on that date, you aren’t eligible.
Age Limit
The RRC counts your age as on 11 December 2026. You must have completed 15 years and must not have completed 24 years.
| Category | Upper Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| PwBD | 10 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | Up to 10 years more, up to the length of service in the Defence Forces plus 3 years |
An Ex-serviceman needs at least six months of service at a stretch. The relaxation doesn’t apply to Ex-servicemen who already joined a Government civil post using their ex-serviceman status.
Medical and Physical Standards
You must meet the physical fitness standards of the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. At document verification, bring a medical certificate signed by a Government-authorised gazetted doctor, not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon, from a Central or State hospital. PwBD candidates must apply only for slots that match their disability and trade.
Stipend and Terms
The notification says the training period and stipend will follow the rules in force. It states no stipend amount. It also says:
- The Railway provides no hostel accommodation.
- The Railway provides no TA/DA or accommodation for the selection process, so you arrange your own.
- Training gives you no right to absorption in the Railway. The employer doesn’t have to offer you a job afterwards, and you don’t have to accept one.
Selection Process
- Scrutiny: the RRC checks your online application. You take no written test and no viva.
- Merit list: the RRC averages your Class 10 percentage and your ITI percentage, with equal weight, and prepares the list cluster-wise, trade-wise and community-wise, up to the number of slots.
- Document verification: you bring your originals plus self-attested photocopies, along with the E-Admit Card from the RRC website.
- Medical fitness: you show a certificate under the Apprentices Act and Rules.
If two candidates have the same marks, the RRC prefers the older one. If their dates of birth also match, the RRC considers first whoever passed Class 10 earlier. The RRC expects to display the merit list in February 2027.
For boards that award grades, the RRC takes the midpoint of the grade range for each subject, out of 100, and adds up the marks of all subjects. For the ITI, it uses the average marks of all semesters in your Provisional National Trade Certificate. Enter your marks exactly. If the marks on your form differ from your original marksheet at verification, the RRC rejects your candidature.
One thing to confirm: one paragraph of the notification asks for one set of self-attested photocopies at verification, and another asks for two. Bring two sets to be safe.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| All other candidates | ₹100 (non-refundable) |
| SC, ST, PwBD and women | No fee |
You pay online only, and you bear the transaction charges. The RRC doesn’t accept cash, cheques, money orders, IPOs, demand drafts or Central Recruitment Fee Stamps. If your payment stays pending or incomplete, make a fresh transaction.
How to Apply Online
Before you start, keep your photograph, signature and thumb impression ready as JPG files of 10 to 50 KB each.
- Open the RRC Northern Railway website and click the “Engagement of Act Apprentice” online application link.
- Register with your name, father’s name, community, category, mobile number, email ID and date of birth. The portal sends a password to your email and by SMS.
- Log in to the Candidate Dashboard, which holds the application form, the online fee payment and the document upload.
- Fill in the form, and choose the cluster and unit that have slots for your ITI trade.
- Pay the fee (unless you’re exempt), upload your photo, signature, thumb impression and certificates, and submit.
- Print your application and the fee payment slip for your records.
The RRC allows one application per candidate. If you send more than one, the RRC rejects all of them without a refund, and you can’t change anything after final submission. Upload certificates in English or Hindi, or attach a self-attested translation. If you keep your certificates as photos, our Image to PDF Converter can help, but check the portal’s format and size rules first.
Documents to Upload
| Document | Detail |
|---|---|
| Date of birth proof | Class 10 certificate or a date of birth certificate |
| Class 10 pass | Marksheet and certificate |
| ITI | The consolidated marksheet of all semesters, or the Provisional National Trade Certificate with marks, and the NCVT/SCVT National Trade Certificate |
| Category certificates | Caste, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen certificates in the prescribed format |
| OBC | Caste and Non-Creamy Layer certificate valid for 2026-27, issued on or after 1 January 2026 |
What Gets Your Application Rejected
- An invalid form: you leave it incomplete; you skip the photo, signature or thumb impression; you sign in capital letters; your photo shows goggles, a cap, a wig or coloured glasses; you pay no fee or too little; you leave out certificates; you’re over or under age; or you fill it in a language other than English or Hindi.
- Missing documents at verification: if you arrive without your originals and self-attested copies, the RRC cancels your candidature, and it accepts no extra documents there.
- False information or fake certificates: the RRC rejects you, can discharge you even after selection, debars you from all RRB and RRC examinations, and may take legal action.
- Impersonation: if you send someone in your place, the RRC disqualifies you, bans you for life from RRB and RRC examinations and Railway appointments, and may take legal action.
- Canvassing or political influence: the RRC rejects you summarily and answers no correspondence.
- Asking to change your division or unit: the RRC entertains no such request.
- An earlier debarment: if an RRB or RRC has already debarred you, don’t apply.

What the Notice Doesn’t Say
The details we have give no stipend amount, no training length for each trade, no domicile condition and no unit in the Northeast. They also show no EWS column, so they list no EWS slots. The notification may answer some of these.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Is this a permanent railway job?
No. It’s apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. It gives you no right to a job afterwards, and the Railway doesn’t have to offer one.
2. What qualification do I need?
A Class 10 pass with at least 50% marks in aggregate, and an ITI pass in your trade from NCVT or SCVT. You must hold both as on 6 November 2026.
3. What is the age limit?
15 to 24 years as on 11 December 2026. SC and ST candidates get 5 years’ relaxation, OBC candidates get 3, and PwBD candidates get 10.
4. Do I take a written test?
No. The RRC selects candidates by the average of their Class 10 and ITI marks, then verifies their documents and checks their medical fitness.
5. When can I apply?
From 11 November 2026 until 11 December 2026, 11:59 PM. You apply online only, and you can submit just one application.
