Who Can Apply

Eligibility follows the NMC Teachers Eligibility Qualifications (TEQ) guidelines 2025 and their latest amendments. For both posts, you need an MD, MS or DNB in the concerned subject, and updated NMC or State Medical Council registration covering all your post-MBBS qualifications.

Professor

  • Experience: three years as an Associate Professor in the subject in a recognised medical institution, or three years as an Associate Professor in a teaching hospital of the Armed Forces for a Specialist Medical Officer
  • Research: at least two publications after becoming an Associate Professor, with you among the first three authors
  • Courses: the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised medical institution. You must also undergo the Basic Course in Medical Education, provided your broad specialty is covered under undergraduate training.

Two notes in the advertisement widen the route. In Aviation Medicine and Marine Medicine, two years in a flying squadron or a diving and escape training school count as one year of teaching experience as Associate Professor. And a Senior Consultant with three years as a postgraduate teacher in an NBEMS-recognised government institute can become a Professor in the concerned specialty, with the years as a postgraduate teacher counted as Professor experience.

Associate Professor

  • Experience: four years as an Assistant Professor in the subject in a recognised medical institution, or five years for those appointed directly as Assistant Professor in a Government medical institution. A Specialist Medical Officer of the Armed Forces needs five years of clinical experience after the postgraduate degree, including at least three years teaching as Assistant Professor in an Armed Forces teaching hospital.
  • Research: at least two publications after becoming an Assistant Professor, with you among the first three authors
  • Courses: the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised institution designated by the Commission, and the Basic Course in Medical Education if your specialty is covered under undergraduate training

There’s a separate route for non-teaching doctors. A Consultant, Specialist or Medical Officer with a postgraduate degree and ten years of experience in a Government hospital of at least 220 beds can become an Associate Professor of that broad specialty. They then have to complete the Basic Course in Medical Education and the Basic Course in Biomedical Research within two years of appointment.

Age and Other Conditions

  • Age: not exceeding 70 years as on 20 November 2026
  • Retired faculty: retired faculty and doctors from private medical colleges, Institutes of National Importance and other Government medical colleges in the country can apply, if they meet the criteria for the post
  • Currently employed: if you work for a Central or State Government body, an autonomous institution, a statutory organisation or a PSU, route your application through proper channel. If that isn’t possible in time, bring a copy of your “Applied for NOC” to the interview.
  • Full-time only: private practice of any kind is strictly prohibited

How to Apply for Shillong Medical College Recruitment 2026

  1. Fill in the application form (Annexure-I) from the advertisement, and affix your passport-size photograph.
  2. Attach self-attested copies of your supporting documents (listed below).
  3. Scan everything and combine it into one single PDF. Multiple submissions won’t be considered.
  4. Email the PDF to shgmedicalcollege@gmail.com, with this exact subject line: Application for the Position of Professor and Associate Professor at Shillong Medical College, Shillong
  5. Send it by 5:00 PM on 20 November 2026.

Some practical points. The address begins “shg”, not “shillong”, so copy it exactly. The notice says to submit an application for each post separately, but it also says only one PDF will be accepted, so if you’re applying to two departments, ask the college how to send them. And an application in any format other than the prescribed one, or an incomplete one, will be rejected outright.

Documents to Attach (Self-Attested Copies)

  • Admit card or certificate of passing
  • All MBBS marksheets
  • MBBS degree certificate
  • Marksheets of MD/MS/DNB or other qualifications
  • Updated NMC or State Medical Registration Certificate
  • Proof of publications
  • Experience certificates
  • A recent passport-size photograph
  • A relieving certificate from your previous employer, if applicable
  • Aadhaar card
  • A completion certificate of the ICMR/NMC-conducted biomedical research course, if you have one
  • An NMC revised Basic Course/Medical Education workshop completion certificate, if you have one

The college will verify these against the originals before the interview or before any offer of appointment. If your registration with the Medical Council isn’t updated yet, bring an “Applied for” document to the interview. Without an updated registration or that document, you may not be interviewed, or your result may be withheld.

Read the Declaration Before You Sign

The form ends with a declaration. Besides confirming that your information is true, you declare that you have not presented yourself before any inspection by the National Medical Commission for the academic session 2026-2027. If you might have been shown as faculty at another college’s inspection this session, ask Shillong Medical College before you apply. False declarations lead to cancellation of your candidature at any stage.

Selection and Interview

  • Selection is based on your academic credentials and your performance in an interview before the Selection Board.
  • The interview is in person, and no TA/DA is provided.
  • You’ll be told the interview date, and any extra documents needed, by email at least 7 days before the date.
  • Results will be displayed on the college website and on meghealth.gov.in, and offers of appointment go out by email.
  • Appointment depends on being declared medically fit by a Medical Board, and on verification of your documents, declaration and antecedents.

Submitting an application gives you no right to an interview. You have to report on the scheduled date and time with the required documents, and the interview is provisional, subject to a detailed check of your eligibility. The Director can cancel or postpone the recruitment at any stage.

How the Rolling Advertisement Works

20 November 2026 is the cut-off date for this round. Interview dates for the applicants who make that cut-off will be announced later. Screening, communication, interviews and recruitment will be done in phases, depending on when experts are available, when complete documents arrive, and what each post requires. The notice doesn’t give later cut-off dates, so don’t count on more than this one.

It gives no phone number for the college, no interview date, no later cut-off dates, no list of which departments will be interviewed first, and no guidance on how to apply for two posts at once. Ask the Director’s office if any of these matter to you.
